Chamber reducing staff hours - Charleston organization's cuts to affect about 30 workers

Facing declining revenue from memberships, the region's largest business-advocacy group is tightening its belt by reducing employees' hours and pay. About 30 workers at the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce will start four-day workweeks beginning Jan. 20, according to Charles Van Rysselberge, president and chief executive. Those employees will work an extra half-hour each day they're on the clock, thereby losing 5 1/2 hours instead of a full day from a 37 1/2-hour workweek.
