By the time the holidays roll around, my budget is totally shot. There's all that shopping to be done, of course, but then there are travel-related expenses, and holiday parties. Also? Murphy's Law of Holidays states that either your car will die or you'll have a plumbing problem before Santa hops down that chimney.

Whatever your circumstances, I can guarantee you're looking at your bank statement with one eye this week. (I have cunningly devised a special "bank statement viewer." It's a hole cut in a piece of cardboard, just like the ones you make for looking at an eclipse.)

The good news is, there's no better time than the New Year for getting back on track. My goal? Be able to view my statements with both eyes - at the same time! - by the end of the year.
