A Ugandan rebel group has killed at least 12 people in northeastern Congo, officials said Tuesday. The group, the
Lord's Resistance Army, killed eight people in the village of Napopo, near the borders with Sudan and
Uganda, on Monday, the Office of the
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said in Geneva. On Friday, they attacked the Garamba National Park headquarters at Nagero, killing two wildlife rangers and the wives of two park wardens, the conservation group WildlifeDirect said. The rebels, who have been waging one of Africa's longest and most brutal wars, were being chased out of the region by a multinational offensive late last month but managed to kill nearly 200 people as they fled.
