I hate calling in sick. I feel guilty, even if I'm hacking up a lung, and I also feel like I'm missing the party. Sometimes, though, it's only polite to stay home. For example, yesterday I brought my cold to work for show and tell, and no one was excited about it.

"I feel like I'm getting dirty looks," I told one of my friends. "Maybe it's because you're infecting everyone with your germs," she replied. Oh. Well, there's always that.

The common cold is a tough one, though, in terms of knowing when to stay home. If it's really serious and you're sneezing all over the place, you might want to stay home for the comfort of others. Some ailments are easier calls. Pink eye, for example. Yuck.
