Ways to Work Out (Without Going to the Gym)

Not all of us love (or can afford) the gym. But just because you can't do 20 minutes a day on the elliptical doesn't mean you can't find time for physical activity. In fact, you might already be getting more exercise than you realize. Did you vacuum today? Or pick up a huge pile of toys? Both of those activities burn calories. Here are some easy ways to get a workout—without becoming a gym rat. They include:

Taking the Stairs : Before you hop in the elevator or on the escalator, consider going up the old-fashioned way

Counting Every Step: An inexpensive pedometer can help you get more exercise—and you don't even need to break a sweat

Scheduling Some Playtime: Taking your kids to the playground? Get out there with them!

Gardening: Use your green thumb—and work the rest of your body, too

Shaking It Up: Hate the treadmill? Why not try belly dancing or kickboxing?
