Stephen Flint following in his family's footsteps

COLUMBIA â€" The running joke in this football family is that they're South Carolina's equivalent of the Mannings. But, hey, there's some truth in it for the Lowcountry's Flints. Playing along, that would make middle brother Michael the "Peyton." And it would make little brother Stephen the "Eli." Then there's older brother David, 36, who's introduced by family friends as "Cooper." Some light-heartedly question his impact; David, meanwhile, swears his moves on the parks and rec fields influenced his brothers to play the game.

Ashley thinks about what might have been

You see it and hear it all the time. A defensive back makes a great break on a pass, sets up for the big interception and drops the ball. Then the television commentator says, "that's why he's a defensive back and not a receiver." Charleston Southern cornerback Philip Ashley has heard the phrase all too often. Ashley admits he drops more interceptions than he catches.

Shock Rays

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. â€" Squeeze plays, a wacky checked swing and a fresh face out of the bullpen. These plucky Tampa Bay Rays pulled out all their tricks at Tropicana Field to tie the World Series. James Shields stymied the slumping Philadelphia Phillies, rookie David Price got the final seven outs and Tampa Bay rebounded from a rare home loss with a 4-2 victory Thursday night that made it 1-all. The Rays scored on Jason Bartlett's safety squeeze and built another rally when Rocco Baldelli walked on a checked swing that seemed to confuse players and umpires alike.
