CBS Evening News with Katie Couric E-Mail Alert

Hi everyone. I hope you had a great week.

After huge losses on the global markets, Wall Street reacted to fears of a worldwide recession by plunging more than 400 points in the opening minutes of trading, and struggled all day to gain back its losses. As markets around the world took a hit, even the price of gold, a traditional safe-haven investment, plummeted. Anthony Mason reports on what’s behind the turbulence in the markets.

Meanwhile, OPEC cuts its production, but oil prices continue to fall. Is it because we’re driving less? Elizabeth Palmer explains what's going on in the international oil market.

Of course we'll have the latest from the campaign trail as well. Chip Reid has our report – and Bob Schieffer joins us for some analysis.

Which presidential candidate are the casino heavyweights putting their chips behind? Investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson "Follows the Money" all the way to sin city.

And in this election cycle, who's up and who's down … depends on which poll you're looking at. How can you make sense of it all? Jeff Greenfield opens up his book of pointers.

Finally tonight: Assignment America goes to the rodeo. Well, sort of. If you exchange sheep for the bulls … and average kids for the cowboys. Steve Hartman takes in a day of "mutton bustin'," and "ewe" won't want to miss it.

Have a great weekend!
