Tonight On The CBS Evening News

Hi everyone this is Katie Couric. One thing is clear as we head into the home stretch of Campaign '08: This election is all about the economy. Senator Barack Obama hosted a meeting in Florida today to promote his economic stimulus package - which he hopes will create new jobs. Senator Obama said the economic crisis has been "a long time coming" and that it had "very clear" warning signs. He also said today he'll be putting a hold on campaigning while he visits his ailing grandmother in Hawaii this weekend. Dean Reynolds has the very latest on the Obama campaign, and Chip Reid is with John McCain as he tries to make inroads with voters in Pennsylvania - what could be the only "blue" state he has a chance of tipping.

Senator McCain has compared his competitor's tax policies to "spread the wealth" socialism. What's wrong … and right … about that assertion? Wyatt Andrews does a Reality Check.

Next: The money gap in this campaign. There's a huge difference in how much the two campaigns are spending in the battleground states. I'll spell it out in our CBS News Campaign '08 Notebook

Continuing our special series about the candidates and the issues, tonight we focus on creating jobs. Jim Axelrod and his team headed down to Florida, the state with the greatest job losses this past year, to find out how Obama and McCain's economic proposals would affect them. Find out "Where They Stand," tonight.

Finally - if the economy's got you frustrated … do you ever feel like breaking something? Ben Tracy found just the place for you.

See you tonight,

Katie
