Ports give S.C. economy a boost

More than one in every 10 workers in South Carolina earns a living connected to the coastal region's public and private ports. Those people comprise nearly 14 percent of the state's total income. And the port operations and users account for more than 12 percent of the gross state product.

Scana earnings inch up

Scana Corp. shareholders have a penny more in their portfolio. That's how much earnings per-share grew in the third quarter compared with the same period last year for the Columbia-based utility owner. Scana reported earnings of $94 million or 80 cents per share, slightly more than the $92 million and 79 cents per share reported last year.
