England Fail to Beat a Tired New Zealand

Posted: 30 Nov 2008 07:14 AM CST

Another harsh lesson for England against the All Blacks

England 6 New Zealand 32

England were well beaten at Twickenham by a tired New Zealand team.  The scoreline was not reflective on the closeness of the match, only in the final quarter did the Kiwi’s pull away.  With Lee Mears, Phil Vickery, Toby Flood and Tom Rees all sin-binned during the game, England were in effect left to play half the match with one player short.

With England taking some advantage of the weakest looking New Zealand side (due to playing five big test matches in five weeks), they were still left short in many areas.

Martin Johnson said “Some of the guys still have a lot to learn, and we have a lot to learn as a team,” he added “If you make mistakes at this level, you get killed.

“People have said ‘at least you turned up and played’ but Christ, that is the absolute minimum you expect.”

With the six nations kicking off on Feb 7th 2009, Johnson will need his squad playing with more discipline and get a strong leader on the pitch or face further defeat.  Get well fast Jonny Wilkinson.

Archbishop: Christmas Means Chocolate These Days

Posted: 30 Nov 2008 06:35 AM CST

Dr Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury thinks Christmas means for many means shopping, parties and chocolate

He posted a message up on YouTube this week, to encourage worshippers to reflect on the wait before the birth of Jesus Christ during the four weeks of Advent.  He thinks the majority see it as a time to simply shop, party and eat chocs .

Dr Williams says: “I suppose if you did one of those word association tests on ‘Advent’, the other word you’d come up with straight away would be ‘calendar’.

“That’s all that most people these days are really aware of where Advent is concerned. The Advent Calendar is a countdown to Christmas, and it means daily sweets and chocolates.”

Dr Williams added later on: “It’s been said so often it hardly needs saying again, but it is rather a pity that for a few weeks before Christmas we are saturated with Christmas carols.

“We don’t have quite the sort of quiet we need to think”.

Ruth Out of X Factor as Britney Mimes

Posted: 30 Nov 2008 04:14 AM CST

Ruth Lorenzo became the eighth contestant to be booted off the show last night

With everyone singing Britney songs (Live) Ruth was finally voted out by the public on a night where the judges played no part in the eviction.

On Britney night, Ruth decided to sing that famous Britney song “I love Rock and Roll” - not that any of us recall Britney ever covering it..

Simon Cowell told her: “I thought it was brilliant.”

While Cheryl Cole said: “It was lovely to see someone rocking up there for a change. You’re the rock chick of this show and I loved it.”

Ruth was last night up against Alexandra Burke, Eoghan Quigg, Diana Vickers and boy band JLS.  Alexandra put in two stunning and faultless performances and showed the World that she is possibly one of the finest singers of her generation.  Ruth and JLS performed well above the standard seen from Eoghan and Diana.

For some unknown reason to us at The DailyDust, Diana “one tone” Vickers and Owen Eoghan “big hair - no voice” Quigg keep being saved by the public.

Britney Spears made her first UK television performance in over four years, and frankly it was a disgrace.

Dressed all in black, with hotpants, fishnet tights and knee-high boots, the pop singer mimed her way through her current single Womanizer.  When asked by Dermott O’Leary  what he thought of being on X Facotr, she replied in a PR dream “I love being here in London”

Unlike guest stars Take That and Mariah Carey, Britney did not mentor the contestants ahead of last night’s show.

When asked by a clearly restricted Dermot as to whether she had any advice for the contestants she told him: ‘Good luck and just keep doing it’..yeah Brit..thanks.

And so the final words on the night were from our favourite to make the final, Ruth Lorenzo, “I fought with all my heart, with everything I had. And this doesn’t end here. This is the beginning of my dream.

“All I can say is thank you so much. I never ever dreamed of this ever.”

We are sure Britney wished she had as much dignity and grace as Ruth..
