Watercraft dealers look to steering sales through economic storm

Tim Clark knows the annual Charleston Boat Show is sailing into a stiff economic headwind. But the co-owner and sales manager for Longshore Boats near Daniel Island, who also happens to be chairman of the event, is optimistic the exhibition will buoy dealers' spirits and, hopefully, their sales.

Byron Miller, director of public relations for the S.C. State Ports Authority, has been elected Southeast regional vice president for the International Propeller Club of the United States, a maritime industry organization with more than 8,000 members in 60 ports around the world. In that role, his territory includes all ports in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Puerto Rico. Miller previously served a two-year term as the president of the Propeller Club of the Port of Charleston.

Force Protection plans to consolidate operations

Force Protection Inc. renewed most, but not all, of its 550,000-square foot industrial site and headquarters on U.S. Highway 78 in Ladson. The company, which makes mine-resistant combat vehicles, recently extended the terms of its lease through June 30, 2014, according to a filing with the SEC.

Penguin palace finds place at S.C. Aquarium

Looking like little more than a giant plastic foam cooler, a new penguin exhibit required a true feat of logistics to land in its new home at the South Carolina Aquarium.
