| | | One of Obama's greatest strengths is his ability to reach across the aisle and compromise in the name of getting things done. But if he compromises too much, that sunny bipartisanship could also turn into one of his biggest weaknesses, especially if he backs down on his health care plan. It's crucial for Obama to make sure he follows through with his campaign promise of including a competitive, government-sponsored health care plan for those who do not have or simply do not like their employer-paid or private options. A public health care plan would do more than cover the uninsured; it would show that the government can handle health care better than private, for-profit industry. And it could put to rest, once and for all, conservatives' myths about the magic of the free market. The journey begins tomorrow, and we have many, many reasons to be hopeful.
