CBS Evening News with Katie Couric E-Mail Alert

Hi everyone,

In eight days, Americans will elect a new president. Barack Obama is making what his campaign called his "closing argument" today. At rallies in Ohio and Pennsylvania, he called for ending Wall Street greed – and championing the middle class. Dean Reynolds has the latest.

For John McCain, this final stretch is all about the economy, taxes and jobs. He's also in Ohio today as he heads into the final sprint to the finish line. Chip Reid is with the McCain campaign.

I'll have the rest of the news from the trail in our Campaign '08 Notebook. Also, if you watched our show last Friday, you learned that Las Vegas casino chiefs have stacked their chips behind the McCain campaign. Tonight, Sharyl Attkisson investigates where Barack Obama gets the bulk of his campaign funding in what has become the most expensive election in history.

Aside from the presidential race, one election battle that’s getting a lot of attention is in South Dakota. Known as Initiative 11, this measure would make abortion a crime, except in the case of rape, incest or the health of the mother. Kelly Cobiella reports if it passes, its ramifications could go far beyond state borders.

Also tonight: Dr. Jon LaPook has an important story about research into preventing prostate cancer. And Cynthia Bowers has the latest developments in the massive manhunt – that seems to now have ended – for Jennifer Hudson's 7-year-old nephew.

Finally tonight, whether you say "tomato" or "to-MAH-to," this new version of this fruit will leave you saying "huh?!" Mark Phillips shows us a tomato of a different color.

See you tonight,
