‘Chav’ Nativity Causes Controversy

Posted: 09 Dec 2008 05:00 AM CST

A 'chav' nativity play has been branded "disgraceful" by angry parents. The play has Jesus turn water into strong lager and has the three wise men bearing gifts of Adidas and Burberry clothes.

Michelle Taylor, said she was stunned when she was shown the play at Oakwood School in Bexley, Kent. She said, “You try to encourage your children to speak properly and then they get given this sort of thing at school. I know some young people do speak like this sometimes but the school should not be condoning it in any way.

“In one scene they have Mary and Joseph breaking into a garage because there is no room at the inn. That is not right.

“The pupil I spoke to thought it was highly amusing that Mary and Joseph were being portrayed as chavs, but I didn’t.”

A statement issued by Bexley Council said: “It was never the intention of Oakwood School to use this script as its nativity play. This piece of work was part of a sketch four year nine students were looking at during a drama lesson on the use of language.

“This is definitely not the kind of language that the school would ever encourage or endorse.
“The school apologises for any upset this confusion may have caused parents. We are proud of our school community and our relationship with parents and pupils and would never knowingly cause distress to either.

“The school’s annual nativity play will be a traditional take on the Christmas story and will involve pupils from every year in school. As usual, family members, members of the community and friends will be invited to take part in the performance.”

Joe Kinnear charged by the FA yet again

Posted: 08 Dec 2008 01:28 PM CST

Well, Newcastle may be in for a relegation fight this season but they will be well up for it if Joe Kinnear has anything to do with it.

Lashing out like a mad dog, Kinnear has again been charged by the FA for getting dismissed during Saturday’s draw with Stoke. He has until December 23 to respond to the charge.

Kinnear has been charged with using abusive and insulting words towards a match official after berating Mike Riley for giving away the soft free kick that led to Stoke’s last-gap equaliser. Riley then sent Kinnear to the stands.

Joe famously went on an expletive-laden tirade against journalists during a press conference early in his tenure, and was charged again after calling Martin Atkinson a ‘Mickey Mouse referee’.

Fighter? Yes. Man to steady a ship? Erm…

Dita Von Teese: I Won’t Bed Brand

Posted: 08 Dec 2008 11:31 AM CST

Dita Von Teese has laughed off suggestions of a romantic relationship with Russell Brand after he left a voice mail on the burlesque star's answermachine.

Von Teese said:

“I will not be shagging Russell Brand.

Just because I gave him my number does not mean I'll be going on a date with him.

I was the subject of one of his calls once, but I didn't answer the phone thank goodness.

I just saw his name come up on the screen and thought: “I don't think I'm going to answer that right now.”

He was on air and it was just good female intuition.

I had another conversation with him on the air shortly before he left his radio show and he is a lot of fun. I like him.”

Brand had phoned Von Teese for his BBC radio show before he resigned. He said: ”Oh hi Dita, this is Russell. Just ringing to see if you’re still interested in my speed boat and various charity events. So if you do want to do these charity events and speed boats…

‘Sorry Dita, this is Russell, I’m on my radio show. I met you the other day and my friend Matt has made me call you and do this.’

Von Teese was in London for the British Comedy Awards where Russell Brand picked up the award for Best Live Stand-Up, however, they didn't get to meet this time as Brand is filming the Tempest in the US.

Let’s Not Fight This Christmas - Places to Buy The Song

Posted: 08 Dec 2008 11:12 AM CST

Chris Difford singing on the official Video

More behind the scenes opinion from Kenton, one of the writers behind the DailyDust supported “Let’s Not Fight This Christmas”.

“Well, here we are… the song is officially out and we’re all plugging away to raise money for Children in Need. This is our first official week of release, so we’ll all be chart-watching come the end of the week.

It’s all a little overwhelming. None of us realised that so many people, like us, had such nostalgia for the days of the old-fashioned Christmas song. Nor did we realise just how much the song would touch the hearts of people for whom the holidays aren’t always shiny and bright… We’ve had such lovely comments from viewers of the One Show and listeners who have really got behind the message of the song… that one day a year to put everything aside and appreciate what we have is at least a start.

It’s always nice, even when a song is primarily designed to be fun and festive, to know that it’s actually made someone feel better. At the end of the day, that’s really why we all took this job on.

I’m thinking of preparing a guide to downloading and burning for all of you - like me -  who would prefer a CD, vinyl or wax cylinder copy of the single. In the meantime, if anyone has anyone questions, feel free to get in touch on kenton.ist@gmail.com and we’ll guide you through it. Full-service songwriter me.

Links are appearing around t’Interweb. Please download the song this week, and help us support a terrific cause. And while we’re at it, why SHOULDN’T we have an original Christmas song for Christmas no. 1? Hmmm? Why not?”

Avoid Irish Pork

Posted: 08 Dec 2008 10:49 AM CST

Police in Ireland are investigating how pigs in the country are found to be contaminated with potentially harmful dioxins.

Britain’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) warned consumers not to eat and pork products from Ireland. The problem will be in trying to tell exactly where the food has originated from.

Fresh pork, bacon, sausages, black puddings and even fresh pizza toppings could all be affected, brands of sausages such as Wall’s, Pork Farms and Richmond are all owned by the Irish company Kerry Foods.

An FSA statement said: “From the information that we have at this time, we do not believe there is significant risk to UK consumers as adverse health effects from eating the affected products are only likely if people are exposed to relatively high levels of this contaminant for long periods.”

Supermarkets are withdrawing any products from their shelves that they know are from Ireland or are not 100% sure about.

Diana out and Eoghan Blubs like a..16 year old

Diana sobbing with Owen Eoghan on Saturday night

Eoghan and Diana were voted by the public to be in the last place sing-off this weekend.  Diana, 17, from Blackburn - performed Dido’s White Flag and Avril Lavigne’s Girlfriend - looked shocked and stunned as Dermot O’Leary broke the news she was not going to be in the final.

She started crying but that was nothing compared to boyfriend her close friend Eoghan.  The 16 year old blubbed and sobbed like a baby.  Quigg ran over to Diana bawling, repeatedly saying "I love you", this despite the fact he had been competing with her for a place in the show’s final.

Diana told Dermot O’Leary: "I’ve absolutely loved it, I’ve had the time of my life.

"I’ve met some amazing people, like Eoghan. I just can’t believe it’s happened."

Cheryl Cole, cried through Diana's farewell song - Dido’s White Flag.
The 17-year-old had been odds on to win the show since Laura was controversially voted out, but a recent total lack of difference in her choice of songs and failure to do anything but the same style of song every week probably cost her the final space.

Boy band JLS, Londoner Alexandra Burke, 20, and 16-year-old Owen Eoghan Quigg will now go head-to-head in next Saturdays final.

Our money is on JLS to win but Alexandra is by far the best singer..

Healey is Really Out of Strictly

Posted: 08 Dec 2008 10:41 AM CST

Austin Healey was last night voted out of Strictly by the judges.

Ex-Rugby star, Austin Healey and dance partner Erin Boag, last night failed to win over the judges to make the semi-final next week.

When the series started he was a firm favourite to win but it was his hips let him down, Arlene Phillips said she wanted to see him in the final but "we know you can circle your hips but the salsa hip action wasn't there" she continued before his dance off against Lisa Snowden and Brendan Cole:
"I'm saying this because I want to see you in the final. Austin, be fearless. You have it all, just be fearless all the time."

Craig Revel Horwood described him as "awkward".

Following out Christine last week, Healey said: ‘I’d like to say three thank you's, firstly to everyone at Strictly for giving me the chance to be in something so amazing.

‘Secondly, to Erin, she’s been such amazing partner, and thirdly and most importantly, to my wife. She has brought up four daughters while I’ve been away.

‘I have four beautiful daughters and the best woman in the world in my wife.’

He then bizarrely stripped off his shirt.

Rachel Stevens is now favourite to win.
