CBS Evening News with Katie Couric E-Mail Alert

Hi everyone,

We’ll begin tonight with the astounding allegations against Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. He’s accused of trying to “sell” Barack Obama’s Senate seat, among other charges. In announcing the arrest, U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald said “the conduct would make Lincoln turn over in his grave.” Blagojevich is also accused of trying to strong-arm the Chicago Tribune into firing members of the paper’s editorial board.  Dean Reynolds reports from Chicago and Jeff Greenfield joins us to shed some light on the history of corruption … in Illinois politics.

In Washington, lawmakers are still hammering out some final details of the proposed $15 billion auto industry bailout. They're hoping to reach an agreement by the end of the day, and Sharyl Attkisson has the very latest.

Also tonight: A CBS News exclusive report on domestic bombings. What has authorities very concerned is who is behind the majority of them.  As Armen Keteyian reports, there's a brazen new generation of bombers right here in the United States.

Dr. Jon LaPook follows up on his October report that certain vitamins might do very little – or nothing – to help stave off some cancers. Today, a prominent medical journal weighed in on the matter.  We'll show you the evidence tonight.

Finally tonight: what happens when extreme auto mechanics go eco-friendly? Hari Sreenivasan shows us the art of transforming gas-guzzlers into lean, green machines.

See you tonight,
