In our first story you will see firsthand, through rare up-close combat footage, how foreign-born al Qaeda fighters in Afghanistan have become stronger and more sophisticated. 60 Minutes cameras are with soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division in a firefight so close to the enemy that they could lob hand grenades at them. 60 Minutes spent a month at a forward operating base near Pakistan, where a top general tells Lara Logan his battlefield is heating up. Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Schlosser says he’s seen enemy strength increase up to 30 percent in the last year alone. This was a surprise to one of his soldiers, who had served in Iraq. "You didn’t hear too much about Afghanistan on the news. It was all about Iraq," says Staff Sgt. Jake Schlereth. "And now it’s all about here."

Lesley Stahl follows with a look at how the U.S. government is boldly entering the private sector to inject billions of taxpayer dollars into large financial institutions like Bank of America, the largest bank in the United States. Ken Lewis, the bank’s head, explains what he’ll do with that cash, why it’s necessary and what he thinks is in store for depositors and investors as the economic crisis continues. He’ll also tell you what transpired when he and several other top American bank leaders met with Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson at an historic summit during the nation’s worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.

Ernest Hemingway called bullfighting "Death in the Afternoon," and for Cayetano Ordonez, one of Spain's top matadors, that’s what almost happened when a 1,300 lb. bull critically injured him during videotaping of our third piece. Ordonez and his brother Francisco - also a top matador - tell Bob Simon why two rich and famous brothers, whose father was killed in the bull ring, continue to dance with death. It’s the "closeness to death" that makes him feel more alive says Cayetano. For Francisco, there is no choice. “There's no way out. You're trapped. You're trapped inside the bull ring,” he tells Simon, “It's in the blood.”
