Tonight On The CBS Evening News

Hi everyone,
Tonight we’re extending THE CBS EVENING NEWS to one hour so that we can bring you extra Campaign ’08 coverage. It’s hard to believe that, after a campaign season that’s lasted nearly two years, Election Day is just one night away. We’ll have the latest on the final push to the finish line, with the results of our latest CBS News poll.

Out on the trail, Dean Reynolds is following the Obama campaign for the final blitz, while Chip Reid is with John McCain. Back here at our Election headquarters, we’ll hear from our two wise men of politics. Jeff Greenfield will discuss what to watch for (and when) on Election Night, while Bob Schieffer will report on the key moments that shaped the presidential campaign.

Next, my interview with Sen. Barack Obama. I asked him about his aunt, who reportedly has been living in the United States illegally -- and about what has troubled him most about this election cycle. You won't want to miss what he had to say. For a preview clip, click here. http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/11/03/couricandco/entry4566915.shtml

As we’ve learned time and again, pundits and pollsters pontificating about what's going to happen on Election Day don't always get things right. But when it comes down to it, Americans don’t want to wait for the expected 100 million-plus votes to be counted. Our Fast Draw team will explain…and illustrate…how exit polling and informed predictions are supposed to work.

I hope you'll also join us tomorrow night for our special Election Night broadcast. We'll be live all evening to give you up-to-the minute results from the CBS News Polling Unit. And keep the coffee handy - we'll be following our coverage with a special 2 a.m. Webcast that you can watch on CBSNews.com or at our partner in digital coverage, CNET.com. Also, don't forget to submit any election night questions -- I'll read a couple on air, and our political team will have the answers. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/10/29/politics/2008election/main4557244.shtml

See you tonight,
Katie

Tonight On David Letterman

Join Dave tonight with Paris Hilton, Top Ten with Ricky Gervais… Plus, Musical Guest, Jenny Lewis with Elvis Costello!

Tomorrow On The Early Show

Julie Chen, Maggie Rodriguez, Harry Smith, Russ Mitchell will anchor the EARLY SHOW from New York. Dave Price will bring us the weather.

In addition to the top news of the day, we will also feature the following stories

SIZZLE PANEL The first polls close in approximately 12 hours... So there is still plenty of time for a lively conversation about the candidates and this very long political season. Joining us will be Republican strategist Bay Buchanan, author and syndicated columnist Ann Coulter, CBS News Sunday morning contributor and political commentator Nancy Giles, and Democratic strategist Chris Kofinis.

GOVERNOR HOWARD DEAN On Monday, Chairman Howard Dean will spend the last full day of the 2008 presidential election helping to get out the vote for Democrats in John McCain's home state of Arizona. Recent polls in Arizona indicate that the election will be close and Gov. Dean is committed to “Getting Out the Vote” in support of Obama-Biden and Democrats up-and-down the ballot. We’ll speak to Dean about why he’s doing this and how he thinks it will affect Election Day.

SENATE AND HOUSE VOTES Tuesday's U.S. election will end up making history, regardless of the outcome. If the Democrats win, Barack Obama will be the first African-American president in U.S. history. If the Republicans take the White House, Sarah Palin will become the country's first female vice-president. But while the exciting presidential race has been the focus of much media and voter attention, Tuesday night may also end up being a watershed occasion for the Senate and House of Representatives. We’ll have a full preview of what to expect from the Senate and House races.

DEE DEE MYERS AND DAN BARTLETT Former Clinton advisor Dee Dee Myers, and Bush Communication Advisor Dan Bartlett will be joining us live for the last time, to debate over how the candidates have handled these last few days before the election. Could they have done something differently? Or how have their actions affected the outcome of the race? These two political specialists will give us their projected outcomes of Election Day.

PHILADELPHIA LATEST We’ll speak to political reporter Elizabeth Hur from our Philadelphia station KYW, where she will be live from the long voting lines in downtown Philly. She will be speaking to voters as they enter the polling locations, and bring us the latest on this crucial battleground state.

BOB SCHIEFFER ON THE FLOOR MAP Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer will be live in our studio to go over the voting floor map with Harry - which states are leaning towards red or blue? And how have the polls affected voting day madness? Schieffer will bring us up to date on the latest Election Day results and predict how things will turn out.

VOTING LINES ACROSS THE COUNTRY We will have live coverage across the map and will show you people in polling lines getting ready to vote. We will speak to reporters from Indiana, Virginia, Florida and Ohio, who will all be speaking with voters, and will have feedback about where their states stand as Election Day begins.
