    100 Calories of Satisfaction

    Curb Your Cravings
Daily Tip for Friday, January 2, 2009

    100 Calories of Satisfaction

Low-fat snacks may seem like a great addition to your healthy-eating regimen, but they can be problematic. Low on fat can also mean low on satisfaction, which in turn can send you back for seconds—and thirds—searching for that full and happy feeling. If that's the case for you, it's time to start curbing that craving with a low-calorie "dense" food. What's dense? Think foods that are high in water and/or fiber, like veggies, beans or whole grains. When you reach for your next snack, why not try one of these 100-calorie dense foods? They're light and satisfying—a combo that'll send your low-fat snack packing!
    • 1 cup Kellogg's Corn Flakes
    • 2/3 Lender's Original plain bagel
    • 1 1/4 fresh apples
    • 3 plums
    • 1 medium banana
    • 1/2 plain baked potato with skin
    • 4 1/3 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
    • 2 ounces beef round tip roast
    • 3 ounces baked or broiled haddock
    • 1/4 cup hummus
    • 1/2 cup vanilla soft-serve frozen yogurt

About Today: How to Keep a Resolution

    About.com    Today
In the Spotlight | More Topics |
      from Jen Hubley
It's the second day of the New Year, which means that 63% of you have already broken your resolutions (all statistics totally fabricated). The good news is, if you're already done with your plan, you probably weren't all that serious about it in the first place.

    In the Spotlight
    How to Keep a Resolution
My approach to this problem is to make up one resolution I've no intention of keeping. For example, this year, it's "become a professional kick boxer." Day 2 of '09, and I have made absolutely no progress on this goal. I'm not optimistic about tomorrow, either.

               More Topics
    How to Make Lasting Changes
My actual resolutions, the ones I want to keep, tend to be small and reasonable. I also usually don't make them around the first of the year. I'm way too exhausted from all this holidaying to make real changes right now.

Maintaining Healthy Habits All Year Long
While you're thinking about resolutions, it's probably a good idea to identify something that you're doing right now that's good for you, and that you'd like to continue doing in the New Year.
