Pereda, New America Media An alarming jump in hate crimes prompted civil rights leaders to send a message denouncing violence and calling for legal recourse. Read more »   Over at the Drum Major Institute's blog, Cristina Jimenez reports that the young members of immigrant communities who worked hard to get Barack Obama elected aren't taking promises of the change they sought for granted: "Today, with Barrack Obama as the new elected president, immigrant youth are reenergized and looking forward to the next administration to deliver its promises. Immigrant youth and the broader youth electorate are ready to hold the new administration accountable. Using the internet as one of their tools, immigrant youth are building a strong movement aimed at empowering, organizing youth, and holding president-elect Obama to his promises.
