Jon Gaunt axed for calling a Councillor a “Nazi”

Posted: 21 Nov 2008 06:07 AM CST

Top rated radio presenter John Gaunt

Sony Gold Award winner, Jon Gaunt was this week sacked from his top rated chat show by Talksport.  Gaunty, 47, repeatedly called Councillor Michael Stark a “Nazi” on air but apologised saying he meant “Health Nazi”.

The debate with Stark was fierce with Gaunt furiously arguing that Foster parents were capable of being good parents even if they smoked and said that the good people that want to look after kids don’t always smoke in the house as Stark had earlier claimed that all foster parents smoke indoors.

Michael Stark said “good” when Gaunt told him he had been in care which riled Gaunt further.

This whole row was regarding a 2010 policy that will ban any smokers from becoming a Foster parent.

Since the broadcast and subsequent sacking, there has been a Facebook petition created here the full interview can be heard here, which should be listened to before making any judgement.

Do you think Talksport have been fair?  Leave your comments below.

Savage Wild Cat On The Loose In Somerset

Posted: 21 Nov 2008 02:32 AM CST

28 Sheep killed in savage attacks in Somerset..

Farmer John Chislett has lost 28 prize sheep in three weeks and fears that many more if not all will be killed soon unless he either sells up and moves on with his stock or hires a 24 hour surveillance team.

Mr Chislett believes this is the work of a large and savage wild-cat, “This is no dog, they have slashes across them, deep rips in their sides, their guts have been pulled out and their ears ripped off. Two have had their throats ripped out.

“A dog will chase, worry, kill and leave, or the sheep often die from the worry of the chase, but this is not the work of a dog.”

Three other farmers in the Stoke St Michael area have had some of their stock mutilated in the past month.

A blog has recently been set up to report news on sightings and can be found here.

Have you seen a Wild-Cat in your area?  Let us know in the comments below.

Campaign To Bring Back John

Posted: 21 Nov 2008 02:01 AM CST

John Sergeant - Strictly Favourite

After his sensational exit (more here) from Strictly Come Dancing this week, fans have been complaining in the thousands to get the rolly polly political journalist back on the show.

More than 10,000 have signed up at www.bringbackjohn.co.uk to call for his return, the BBC closed part of the Strictly site after fans crashed it.  Now, with over 2,000 telephone complaints in less than 24 hours, Strictly is in danger of becoming a laughing stock.

At the DailyDust we believe that John should have stayed and won and are going to be fully behind any campaign to bring him back.

Leave a comment if you agree that he should be brought back

The Mortgage And The Murder

Saturday, Nov. 22, 10 p.m. ET/PT

In August 2005, Renee Ohlemacher says she awoke to the screams of her mother. Both her parents had been shot and murdered inside the family's home. Police initially focused their investigation on 20-year-old Renee; even her own relatives had their suspicions that she was involved.

Then a chance encounter led to an improbable suspect – the Ohlemachers’ mortgage broker. By his own admission, his work had him stressed out. But did the pressures of the mortgage business lead him to kill two of his clients?

Or is Renee’s family justified in suspecting her?

Correspondent Erin Moriarty reports for 48 Hours Mystery, this Saturday, Nov. 22, at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

SR-46 (11/21/08): Urine processing underway; crew news conference on tap

=================================

9:35 AM, 11/21/08, Update: Urine processor checkout continues; crew news conference on tap

Flight controllers restarted the space station's new urine processor assembly overnight after troubleshooting an alarm that interrupted initial startup operations Thursday. Additional work with the water recycling system is on tap today, along with additional equipment transfers to the station and preparations for a third spacewalk Saturday.

"Our shift was very busy tonight, we were working replans for multiple items, first taking a look at tomorrow's spacewalk and figuring out, based on what we saw during EVA number two, what type of changes we'll need to consider for EVA three," station flight director Brian Smith said early today. "So we looked at that and we think we have a plan in place.

"We're also dealing with some issues we had with the regenerative ECLSS (environmental control and life support system) equipment that was recently installed on the space station. We're going through the activation and checkout period of that right now and ran into a couple of issues at the end of the shift that preceded mine. So my shift, we spent some time troubleshooting it, researching the problem and developing a plan to get us back on track and back on the timeline. And I think we've been able to accomplish that."

NASA officials said urine processing had resumed, but details about what caused the problem and what was done to resolve it were not immediately available.

Along with continued tests of the water recycling system, the astronauts also plan to check out berthing system hardware that will be installed on the Japanese Kibo module's far end during Saturday's spacewalk to prepare it for attachment of an exposed experiment platform next year. The crew also will assemble an external TV camera system for installation Saturday and continue moving equipment to and from the Leonardo cargo module that will return to Earth aboard Endeavour.

A joint crew news conference is on tap at 3:05 p.m., followed by a mission status briefing at 4 p.m. The astronauts will share a joint meal following their news conference and enjoy an hour of off-duty time before pressing ahead with spacewalk preparations.

Saturday's spacewalk will be carried out by Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper and Stephen Bowen. Both astronauts will spend the night in the station's Quest airlock module at a reduced pressure of 10.2 pounds per square inch to help purge nitrogen from their blood streams before working in NASA's 5-psi spacesuits. Crew sleep begins at 12:25 a.m. Saturday.
