On the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric -- Concerns about deflation and what this means for you...Plus... Senator Joe Liberman's first interview since the election...

Quote Of The Day

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them."
- John Fitzgerald Kennedy

Did You Know
Antarctica is the only continent without reptiles or snakes.

Tonight On The CBS Evening News

Here's an early look at what we are working on for tonight's broadcast from Anchor and Managing Editor, Katie Couric:

Hi everyone,
Another ominous sign today that the economy is slowing: Consumer prices sank by a record amount last month - and that raises concerns about deflation. Falling gas prices played a big role in the decline. But the lower prices don't have Americans buying - and that's especially true in the auto industry. Thousands of un-sold cars are now clogging up ports on the West Coast. And retailers are offering huge incentives to lure customers. Ben Tracy reports.

Meanwhile, the heads of the Big Three automakers were back on Capitol Hill in search of a $25 billion bailout from Congress. Bob Orr sits down with GM CEO Rick Wagoner to hear why his company is asking for a lifeline to help them stay in business.

Next, will Senator Hillary Clinton be nominated for secretary of state … or not? Some of former President Clinton's business deals and fundraising are under review, and Senator Clinton has yet to decide on the cabinet post. One position we do know about: former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle has been chosen to become Secretary of Health and Human Services. Chip Reid has the latest as the Obama administration takes shape.

Two weeks after Election Day, two Senate races are still undecided, meaning Democrats still have a shot at gaining a total of 60 seats, which would give them a filibuster-proof majority.
I'll speak exclusively tonight with Senator Joe Lieberman - who had been on the outs with Democrats for supporting John McCain. It's his first interview since the election, and you won't want to miss it.

Finally tonight: I sat down with a man who has made his living punching holes in conventional thinking. Tonight, best-selling Malcolm Gladwell explains why everything you think you know about what makes someone a success … might just be wrong.

See you later - and by the way, I'll be on The Late Show with David Letterman tonight, so don't forget to watch!

See you tonight!
Katie

And here's an early look at one of the stories we are working on for Thursday's broadcast: Kids can go online to learn how to CHEAT in school. And you'll be shocked to hear what other bad habits they're picking up over the internet. Don't miss our special series, EYE ON TECHNOLOGY, TOMORROW NIGHT, ONLY on The CBS Evening News.

Tonight On David Letterman

Join Dave tonight with Katie Couric, Actor Dev Patel… Plus musical guests Mr.
Brownstone!

Tomorrow On The  Early Show

Maggie Rodriguez, Jeff Glor and Russ Mitchell will anchor the EARLY SHOW from New York. Julie Chen anchors from Los Angeles. Lonnie Quinn will bring us the weather. Dave Price and Harry Smith are on assignment.

Along with the top news of the day, we will also have the following stories:

HEALTHWATCH: HIDDEN DANGERS IN YOUR BLINDS - We'll talk to CPSC's Public Affairs Director Julie Vallese about the recent recall of two types of Roman shades. The CPSC is warning against the possible strangulation hazard to children. CPSC staff is aware of at least two recent deaths and multiple non-fatal incidents with Roman shades. We'll find out why this type of shades is being recalled, and how you can protect your family from this hidden danger.

IS ADULT ENTERTAINMENT GOOD FOR YOUR RELATIONSHIP? - Should couples use pornography to enhance sex and build your marriage? Will it help the relationship, or destroy it? Some couples say that viewing porn will over stimulate your mind so that you'll lose that feeling of passion with your partner or spouse and that that will intimately destroy your relationship. While others say, that they give much credit to their happy and healthy relationship by routinely watching pornography together. Thursday, we'll be taking a look to see if watching adult entertainment with your partner or spouse is good for your marriage.

"DEXTER'S" JIMMY SMITS- For three seasons viewers have tuned in to see blood splatter Analyst Dexter Morgan moonlight as a vigilante serial killer in the hit ShowTime series 'Dexter'. But this upcoming season, Dexter Morgan has found a new friend and partner in crime, in assistant district attorney, Miguel Prado played by veteran actor, Jimmy Smits. Smits will be joining us in the studio to talk about his new role, and other movies/shows he's going to be in.

FIRST LADY OF FRANCE: CARLA BRUNI'S MUSICAL PERFORMANCE! - Carla Bruni, the supermodel-turned-chanteuse who married French President Nicolas Sarkozy earlier this year will be joining us in the studio on Thursday. Her new role has so far seen her meet dignitaries including Pope Benedict XVI and Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, while also finding time to pursue her own singing career. She'll be performing a few songs from her new French album.

EASY MEALS: COOKING WITH CHOCOLATE- Dee Dee Wilson of Bon Appétit Magazine will join us live in the studio to show us some delicious and easy recipes with chocolate! When thinking of chocolate, many of us assume it has to be a dessert… but Dee Dee will show us that it's not always the case. Many types of chocolate are being made with less sugar and more cocoa, causing them to by less sweet. Dee Dee will tell you how to find this chocolate in the grocery store and ways to incorporate them into everyday meals for a fun twist!
