For the second time in as many months, Lowcountry lawmakers are contemplating a measure that would redesign the State Ports Authority's board of directors.

For 19 years, Chris Davies helped people move into a modular Jim Walter Home.

Experts say oil prices will soar again, maybe as soon as 2010

HOUSTON â€" All that money you're saving these days at the gas pump? You might want to put it in the bank. The same cheap oil that's providing relief to drivers and businesses in an awful economy is setting the stage for another price spike, perhaps as soon as next year, that will bring back painful memories of last summer's $4-a-gallon gas.

Apple to reduce some prices, protections

SAN FRANCISCO â€" Apple Inc. is cutting the price of some songs in its market-leading iTunes online store to as little as 69 cents and plans to make every track available without copy protection.

Alcoa cutting workforce - Reductions don't specifically target Berkeley County plant

PITTSBURGH â€" Alcoa Inc., the world's third-largest aluminum maker and operator of a large smelter near Goose Creek, S.C., said Tuesday it will cut 13,500 jobs, or 13 percent of its global work force, and slash spending and output to cope with the global economic slowdown.

Cougars 27-point underdogs against third-ranked Heels

Boston College didn't do the College of Charleston any favors by knocking off previously unbeaten and No. 1-ranked North Carolina, but Charleston coach Bobby Cremins has enough to worry about without considering the Tar Heels' frame of mind. Cremins' Cougars (10-2) take on North Carolina (13-1) at 9 p.m. tonight in the Dean E. Smith Center.

C of C deal: Roy Williams'dumb enough'

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. â€" You almost got to see Tyler Hansbrough play at Carolina First Arena, which means you nearly got to witness North Carolina's uniquely tenacious big guy dive all the way onto Meeting Street in pursuit of a loose basketball.

Tigers rally, stay unbeaten

CLEMSON â€" Trevor Booker had 19 points to help No. 12 Clemson remain unbeaten with a 66-59 victory over Alabama on Tuesday night.

Stingrays' backup goalie Vigier handed first loss

The luck finally ran out for Ian Vigier and the South Carolina Stingrays. Brad Ralph scored two goals and Mike Bayrack had a goal and two assists to lead Charlotte past South Carolina, 7-4, Tuesday night before a crowd of 3,451 at the North Charleston Coliseum.

Who's No. 1? Title game may not tell

Now there already are three teams claiming to be the best in the land, and none of them is playing Thursday night in what's supposed to be the national championship game between No. 2 Oklahoma and top-ranked Florida. Utah's legal eagle is so mad he's trying to figure out a way to blow up the Bowl Championship Series once and for all.
