Tonight On The CBS Evening News

Here's a look at what’s coming up on tonight’s broadcast:

Good afternoon.

This is Jeff Glor filling in tonight for Katie Couric.

Coming up. . . the very latest on the terror in Mumbai. Tonight, Sheila MacVicar will report on the attacks and I’ll speak to an eyewitness to get his perspective.

Also tonight, America’s retailers are on edge - and this could be a holiday shopping season like few we’ve ever seen. Retailers made Black Friday purchasing decisions months ago, long before the credit markets seized up…so moving big ticket items may prove to be a challenge. But could that mean big bargains for YOU? Seth Doane goes behind the scenes, into the retail “war room” of America’s top clothing retailer, The Gap and with electronics giant Best Buy. He’ll tell you what you can expect when you shop today…. or tomorrow.

And, when it comes to giving this holiday season, there’s distressing news. This year charitable donations are down ... just as need is going up… Kimberly Dozier takes a look at how charities are trying to cope.

Next, we return to the destruction of Hurricane Ike. Hari Sreenivasan visits a woman from Bridge City, Texas who lost everything in the storm. Almost three months later, the money to rebuild is scarce and tangled in red tape. Even so, clings to hope and struggles to be thankful

Finally tonight, in Tallahassee, Florida, fans are going to football games just to see the half-time show. Known as "The Hundred," the marching band at Florida A&M is unmatched in their power, passion and precision. Mark Strassmann will take a look at what's behind their incredible success.

I’ll see you tonight. Happy Thanksgiving,

Jeff

And here’s a look at one of the stories we are working on for Friday’s broadcast:

We'll explain the latest in the middle-class foreclosure crisis. Why are more borrowers with good credit losing their homes? That story and more, Tonight only on THE CBS EVENING NEWS.

Tonight On David Letterman

Saturday On 48 Hours Mystery

Here’s an early look at what’s coming up Saturday on a SPECIAL 2 hour 48 HOURS MYSTERY, Drawn to Murder:

On the morning of February 11, 1987, the half naked body of 37-year-old Peggy Hettrick was found in a field in Fort Collins, Colorado… Police canvassed every house near the crime scene, talking with businessmen, housewives and neighbors who all said they had seen nothing suspicious. But police were quick to zero in on Tim Masters, who lived a stone’s throw from the field. Masters, then a 15-year-old with not a lot of friends, but no history of trouble, usually cut through that same field to catch the school bus. Tim’s footprints were in the field… but he hadn’t reported a thing. Upon searching the residence, police discovered all sorts of graphic drawings - mutilation, dismemberment. But at the time, that simply wasn’t enough evidence to arrest Tim Masters.

Years passed and the case went cold… until 1997 when one cop would find an ally to put a new spin on the best evidence the police had. . . Tim’s drawings. More than a decade after the crime, Masters went to prison in 1999 …sentenced to life behind bars without parole… for a grisly murder he swears he didn’t commit. Then, a starting revelation would challenge the conviction. Was there a much more likely suspect? Now, after years of hearings and petitions and unsuccessful appeals, a judge could make a ruling that would set Masters free. Who REALLY killed Peggy Hettrick?

A SPECIAL 2 hour 48 HOURS MYSTERY airs Saturday at 9pmET/8CT
