6:00 PM, 10/23/08, Update: Soyuz TMA-12 set for landing (UPDATED at 8:20 p.m. with undocking)

Expedition 17 commander Sergey Volkov, flight engineer Oleg Kononenko and U.S. space tourist Richard Garriott, squeezed into their Soyuz TMA-12 spacecraft and undocked from the international space station today, setting the stage for re-entry and landing later this evening in Kazakhstan.

With Volkov at the controls, the TMA-12 spacecraft was released from the station's Pirs docking module at 8:16 p.m. EDT. A four-minute 22-second rocket firing to drop the ship out of orbit is planned for 10:45:19 p.m., setting up a landing around 11:36 p.m.

This status report will be updated after landing or as conditions warrant.
