I have come by this belief honestly: In the past few years, I have had pipes explode, turning my kitchen into so much sodden plaster and cracked tile (this was, of course, while I was on vacation) and my boiler poop out not once, but three times (naturally, when the thermometer had dipped so low, even the mercury looked sluggish about its job).
