This I Believe

Posted: 06 Dec 2008 08:53 AM CST

"I can’t believe that God put us on this earth to be ordinary. " - Lou Holtz

This I Believe
There are no accidents without value. No matter how difficult the circumstances in life, we can grow and learn from what happens to us – everything happens for a reason. Taking the time to find the value in these events is up to each of us.

This I Believe
You cannot change or heal what you do not acknowledge. For real and lasting growth to occur, we must first come to terms with our reality and see it for what it really is in order to reframe it and learn from it.

This I Believe
Happiness is a choice. Each day we can either choose to face the day with a positive attitude or allow the obstacles and setbacks to overwhelm us and make us anxious and angry.

This I Believe
Love can be eternal. While it's true no one can make you happy, you can feel happiest about yourself when you are with someone who gives you the time and space to bring out your best.

This I Believe
We all have a purpose in life. To find your purpose, make a list of all the things you want to accomplish in your life. The one that jumps off the page and makes you begin to cry is your purpose.

This I Believe
Life and learning is a process. Try to avoid saying you can't do something, instead, state, "I have not learned how to..," or "I'm learning how to…"

This I Believe
Never give up. The day you quit is the day before the goal or task is accomplished.

This I Believe
We measure our progress in life incorrectly. Instead of measuring where you are now to where you want to be, measure yourself from where you have been.

This I Believe
It's OK to make and have money – a lot of money if you wish. Your character is not defined by how much money you make; your character is defined by what you do with the money you make.

This I Believe
As parents our main responsibility is to nurture and protect our children. We also have the responsibility to break the cycle of any harm, dysfunction or pain we experienced as children. I believe our jobs as parents are to make our children's life better than our childhoods. The real payback occurs when our children do likewise as parents.

This I Believe
Always love your partner and always fight fairly when disagreements occur. It is never acceptable to strike your partner – ever. Listen to their point-of-view and then offer your own. Remember, would you rather be right than happy?

This I Believe
Living a happy and fulfilling life is more about the "what" than the "how." Focus on "what" you want. The "how" will reveal itself naturally over time if you fully commit to the "what."

Kelly Brook is the New Face of Pepsi

Posted: 06 Dec 2008 07:45 AM CST

Kelly Brook has been chosen as the face of a new Pepsi MAX advertising campaign. She is promoting the new Pepsi Quick Response codes. The codes are a kind of bar code that mobile phones can scan and then receive extra pictures and videos to their phones.

Kelly Brook said – in what sounds suspiciously like a prepared statement from a PR company rather than actual quotes , ‘QR technology really is the future - it's a great way of getting games, comedy, images and virals from Pepsi Max on your mobile - any time anywhere.'

'I had great fun on the set of this shoot - it's a new look for me and quite a departure from my normal classic retro style.

‘I really loved some of these crazy futuristic outfits though - and wanted to take them home!'

Power Giants Profit from Plummeting Price of Oil

Posted: 06 Dec 2008 05:16 AM CST

Power companies are under increasing pressure to slash their energy bills. The price of gas, electricity and oil have been significantly reduced, but energy bills continue to rise sharply.

Oil prices closed at 45 dollars a barrel yesterday, more than 100 dollars less than it’s July peak.

Robert Hammond of Consumer Focus said: “With the continued drop in wholesale prices, we have called on suppliers to lower prices without delay or explain why they won’t.

“Where there is clear evidence of companies not passing through price reductions to consumers when they should, the regulator must take firm and swift action against the offending suppliers.”

Intelligent men produce better quality sperm

Posted: 06 Dec 2008 03:31 AM CST

British researchers at King’s College London have demonstrated that intelligent men produce better sperm. The research suggests that intelligence and sperm quality are linked so smarter people were more likely to reproduce.

Ms Rosalind Arden, lead author, said “As an initial proof-of-concept, we took two characteristics that seemed, on the surface, unlikely to be associated with each other– intelligence and sperm quality – and tested whether there was a statistical relationship between them.

“We found a small positive relationship: brighter men had better sperm.

“But we are not trying to say that under modern conditions intelligent men are going to have more children.

“We wanted to test the idea that intelligence is favoured by natural selection.”

The research shows the effects remain even after taking into account factors such as intelligent men being less likely to smoke and more likely to live healthly lifestyles.

Ms Arden said: “This does not mean that men who prefer Play-Doh to Plato always have poor sperm: the relationship we found was marginal.

“We look forward to seeing if the results can be replicated in other data sets, with other measures of intelligence and other measures of physical health that are also strongly related to evolutionary fitness”.

Arise Joe, King Of The Jungle

Posted: 06 Dec 2008 02:58 AM CST

Joe Swash was last night crowned the King of the jungle

As predicted yesterday, Joe Swash became the King of the jungle last night after George Takei was earlier voted out leaving a final two of Swashy and Martina Navratalova.

After being proclaimed King, Swash, 26, said “Wicked. I can't believe it. Martina, you are my queen though."

During his interview with Ant and Dec he said: “It's been amazing, it's been everything. There have been ups and downs and I've finished on a high. I'm coming out a maturer man, it's been worthwhile."

Speaking of Takei, his camp buddy: “I love him, I love him, I think I love the man,’ he said of the 71-year-old Star Trek star.

“If he was a bird I think I’d be all over him. I just felt I could kiss him. Not in a gay way.”

After finishing a credible second, Martina, 52, said: "You can't compete with EastEnders can you! You can't compete with Joe, he's such a gent."

And third place finalist George said: "I'm delirious with joy, it was an unforgettable experience".

Joe Swash is now one of the favourite’s to be Dr Who, after this performance, who’d bet against him?

Avoid Xmas shoppers and punt all day

Posted: 05 Dec 2008 05:32 PM CST

Fast forward 19 days and it would be a white Christmas 'up north' – 4/1 by
the way should anyone fancy it – but here's hoping the snow which currently
remains at Wetherby melts in time for racing on Saturday, as there are
three bets there to help put nuts on the Christmas table.

The opening race at the A1 track provides the first port of call so set the
alarm in time for Diamond Frontier (11.40).
This five-year-old hurdler put up a much improved display on his second
outing of the season at Hexham last month when sluicing through the mud to
dish out a 12 lengths beating to Numero Due. Today's company is nothing out
of the ordinary and a follow-up looks on the cards.

An hour-and-a-half later sees the chance for punters to weigh in again on
Andytown (1.15), who represents the Nicky Henderson-Barry Geraghty
combination that were responsible for Barbers Shop at Sandown on Friday.
This improving sort demolished his rivals in a competitive handicap hurdle at Cheltenham
last month – winning with his head in his chest – and though hiked up a
whopping 18lb for that victory, he is capable of defying the weight on his
favoured soft ground with form-figures of 2P211 when the mud is flying.

The re-routed Grade 1 Fighting Fifth Hurdle is next on the card at
Wetherby and is being shown live on Channel 4, where Punjabi (1.50) should
take all the beating.
It's that man Nicky Henderson again who trains this progressive hurdler who
signed off last season with a superb third in the Champion Hurdle at
Cheltenham.
Punjabi fits the profile of past winners of this event and is the one to
beat after reportedly showing up good in his homework.

The final two bets of the day can be found on the all-weather where Lapina
(1.55)
will be popular in the opener at Great Leighs.
This filly showed an improved display last time after leaving trainer Pat
Eddery, running on well into second at Wolverhampton over 1m4f. A winner
over 1m6f in June off a handicap mark of 61, she will enjoy this 1m5f trip
from a rating of 56 for Jamie Spencer.

The fifth and final bet of the day comes at Wolverhampton in the evening
where Sendreni (8.50) can gain compensation for a luckless second over
tonight's 7f trip at Kempton last time.
This gelding was blocked in his run before hitting the front that day – a
move that ultimately cost him – but he has the opportunity to race off the
same mark here with Chris Catlin again wanting to take the ride following
Kempton.

“Hello all,

Going to have to pop in for a quick update today… because it’s all going - in my best rhyming slang - radio rental. The song debuts on The One Show tonight in video form….

and… here’s the biggie… the song is now available RIGHT NOW on iTunes with further links to follow. Oh, and overseas Squeeze fans, Difford fans,  ist fans and fans of Kev and Tom’s work… I am keeping an eye out for a suitable overseas link!

But get downloading… make loads of money for Children in Need, and make some Christmassy songwriters very happy.
